Local WMAZ 13 reports that Harsch Investment Properties, the owners of the building where Jimenez’s church currently occupies, will not be renewing the church’s lease in direct response to his hate speech.
Jimenez infamously congratulated the Orlando shooter just hours after the massacre, saying “Are you sad that 50 pedophiles were killed today? I think Orlando, Florida, is a little safer tonight. The tragedy is that more of them didn’t die. The tragedy is I’m kind of upset he didn’t finish the job.”
The Pulse nightclub shooting left 49 people dead and 53 people injured.
While Verity Baptist Church’s lease is not up until March, Harsch Investment Properties is strongly requesting that Jimenez leave immediately.
“We have many places of worship and other religious organizations in the properties we manage,” the company’s press release said, firmly saying that they cannot tolerate “tenants who advocate hatred and the taking of innocent lives.”
“The lesbian gay transgender bisexual community is going to stand together,” protest organizer John Hayden said. “We are standing together right now in solidarity to negate a message that the preacher is sending that all gay and lesbian people need to be killed.”
These protests seem to have paid off.
The managers at Harsch Investment Properties wrote that they’ve always “Supported the LGBT community and many other organizations whose missions are to further respect, dignity and the ability for all individuals to live their lives as they wish.”
Pastor Jimenez has yet to express any regrets about his hateful speech.
